Barcock's Barn.

Barcock’s Barn project

We are trying to convey the essence of the conversion of the nineteenth century brick and flint barn in the grounds of Garden House Farm.

It has been purchased by Paul and Teresa Selvey and they will need 18 months or so supervising this enormous project. They will call their home Barcock’s Barn, in homage to Fred Barcock, the celebrated gardener and plantsman, for whom Garden House Farm was once home.

Fred Barcock was responsible for creating some of the finest gardens in the area, and the grounds of Garden House Farm display a fine example of his planting.

Paul and Teresa spent six months planning the project, working with architects, surveyors, planners and even getting used to the idea of an archeological survey.

Paul and Teresa have spent the summer weekends of 2010 clearing the overgrown grounds and uncovering some of the fine specimens of trees and shrubs in the borders, much of which was covered in brambles.

After a long winter of delays, planning permission was finally achieved. The Archaeology Report / Historic Record thus produced is an interesting document. You can download it here, but beware, it is a large file and could take a while to download.

The front of the barn looks the same still but all the buildings have gone from the rear and the ground has been cleared.
