The official title of our hall was the Drinkstone War Memorial Institute and it had a long history. In 1921, a piece of land was bought for the purpose of erecting a village hall as a war memorial for the parish. A wooden billet hut was brought to the land by horse and cart from Great Ashfield aerodrome and put in place. It served the village well.
This historic Village Hall was dismantled in June 2011 and taken to a new home. A fire put paid to its useful life and the creation of a new hall (which was already planned) became more urgent than ever.
All Drinkstone’s Clubs and classes have carried on with help from All Saints Church and other villages who have offered their hall.
The Village Hall Committee is responsible for day to day management of the hall and its activities. There is a Steering group which is co-opted by the committee for the purpose of focusing on the New Hall project.
